All April knows about her past is that she is ‘the Dustbin Baby’, abandoned in an alleyway at birth. Now she’s living with foster mother Marion, who’s as old-fashioned as the museum she works in. It’s the morning of April’s fourteenth birthday, and she’s expecting a mobile phone. Her friends all have them: with one, she’ll almost feel normal. When technophobe Marion gives her earrings, it’s the last straw.
Bunking school, April sets out on a journey through her past. On the way, it becomes clear that April doesn’t really need to know where she comes from: she needs to know where she belongs.
